Riley Gets a Home |
When shelters become overloaded with unwanted animals, those animals are euthanized. Over 4 million a day! But Pilots N Paws is helping by shuttling these at risk sweethearts to places people want to adopt. You can help, too. Here’s the LINK to take you to their page. I donated and will do so again. My trip to Burma has made me even more aware of animal needs.

Hats Off Corner Welcomes J.H. Moncrief
Sometimes evil looks like a fuzzy teddy bear.
Still grieving the untimely death of his dad, ten-year-old Josh Leary is reluctant to accept a well-worn stuffed teddy bear from his new stepfather. He soon learns he was right to be wary. Edgar is no ordinary toy…and he doesn’t like being rejected. When Josh banishes him to the closet, terrible things begin to happen.
Desperate to be rid of the bear, Josh engages the help of a friend. As the boys’ efforts rebound on them with horrifying results, Josh is forced to accept the truth—Edgar will always get even.
Raised in the far north, amid Jack London’s world of dog sleds and dark winters, J.H. Moncrieff has been a professional writer all of her adult life.
During her years as a journalist, she tracked down snipers and canoed through crocodile-infested waters. She has published hundreds of articles in national and international magazines and newspapers.
When she’s not writing, J.H. loves to travel to exotic locations, advocate for animal rights, and muay thai kickbox. She’s an avid reader of many different genres, including thrillers, suspense, true crime, memoirs, cookbooks, women’s fiction, and horror.

These pilots who shuttle animals in need to places where they can find happy homes are truly angels. I saw a lot of this type of thing while I lived in the Caribbean, where people breed animals indiscriminately and then leave them to fend for themselves. How kind of you to bring this to the attention of many,''
a really newsworthy post you have here.
Ive never heard of Pilots N Paws so thank you very much for brining it to my attention. I will donate. Animals in need of a home rip my heart open. I wish I could take all of them. I love animals and I don't like our local shelter because they put dogs down after a very short stay. It makes me cry.
I have a new favorite quote. I heard it at my daughter's high school graduation over the weekend. It is too long for me to write the entire quote, but it is by Calvin Coolidge. It begins with "Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not. Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not. The world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
Well I think I wrote it all or most if it. For some reason, hearing that quote this past weekend, truly resonated with me. It made me consider my writing, where I am and where I want to be. It was perhaps the biggest kick in the pants I've had and I needed it.
I just heard about Pilots N Paws the other day! SO cool. 😀
I couldn't resist. I just downloaded J.H.'s book.
Riding by on the Road Trip and just wanted to say hi again and thank you for the wonderful work you did leading your team. Your photos are wonderful that you posted during your A to Z – full of colour and vibrancy 🙂 Special Teaching at Pempi’s Palace
That is one evil and scary bear lol. I automatically thought Chuckie! It's just not that safe having toys anymore … =P Congrats to J.H.!
Oh, yes. Chuckie. I'd forgotten him. Well, I'm sure J.H has a much spookier character.
Such good work for those poor animals. Love the quote, too. Stopping by on The Road Trip.

Hi Nancy. Thanks for your visit. Will come over and say hello.
Love the quote by Amelia! Gosh, how do you reply to all these comments without #overwhelm?

Smiling helps. Great to see you here from Hawaii!
Ah, darn it…now you guilted me into buying a small wolfpack of dogs..but if it's for a good cause:)
No. No. A large wolfpack if you please.
Meant to add, way to go, JH. Your adventure sounds wonderful.
Thanks, Joylene!
JH sounds like she's lived a pretty amazing life. Grats to her!
Yay for Riley finding a home. That's such good news!
Thanks, Loni. Some days are more amazing than others. 🙂
OMGosh! YAY for Riley finding a home. I hadn't heard of Pilots N Paws, before. I will definitely check it out and spread the word. Great cause!
I knew JH has a great blog and writes thrillers, but I had no idea she was a journalist for so many years. How adventurous! Wishing her much success with her new creepy-looking novel!
Thanks, Lexa! And thanks for visiting my blog. Much appreciated!
I can see The Bear Who Wouldn't Leave as a movie!
All of my dogs have been from shelters. Love to see people being kind and turning around a sad situation!
~Jess
I would love to see it as a movie too, Jess. Thanks for the kind words!
Congrats to JH! She and I have a lot in common–we both write fiction and nonfiction, although I think she's much more journalist than I am!
Only because I need the money, Stephanie. 😉
Just dropping by from the A to Z Road Trip. Thanks for the book reviews. I would like to look into the book The Bear Who Wouldn't Leave….
So glad you visited and want to take the open road with us.
Love JH's photo. Awesome. We raised a few thousand for the SPCA on my brother's behalf. If there is a heaven, he's smiling. The quote you give is great. Tenacity is everything. I'm convinced.
You and me both. Hang on and never let go.
Pilots and Paws sound like a great cause to support. Thanks for sharing the link!
Congrats to JH! 🙂
I'd like to find more causes like this one.
Congrats J.H.! that is an awesome cover too!
She knows how to scare you, doesn't she?
Love the quote at the end of the post Lee. So sad about animals being put down. Also loved reading about J.H. Moncrief. Her book sounds riveting!
I'll read it with all the lights on!
I just visited JH over at the A to Z Blog. It's a small world. I love her A to Z theme and am going over some of them tonight.
It was a great theme.
Thanks for the kind words and for visiting my blog, Stephen!
Hi Lee,
As somebody who is involved with the welfare of animals, knows a number of folks who care deeply about our animal friends, I shall duly check out that worthy link.
Somewhere in the middle I shall have a look at you at the bottom. Did that sound right….
Hearty congrats to JH. It does bear reading.
Here's to our beloved animal friends. I shall duly share this post to "Farcebook" and all those other social "notworking" sites.
Your starstruckest fan,
Gary 🙂
I know Penny will appreciate knowing about that group of pilots!
Even animals have feelings, God bless their little souls.
They're special and we need to treat them that way. Thanks for the visit.
Great trailer. Edgar is a bear not to mess with!
I think you're right. That Teddy Bear bears watching.
Major kudos to Pilots and Paws. I'm a big supporter of animal rescue organizations and this looks like a good one.
But that bear is seriously creepy. Congratulations to J.H.
Thanks, LD. I do think this is an amazing organization.
what a wonderful gesture!
Yep! Hope they can sustain the program.
Wonderful what these pilots do to help animals. More awareness is needed to prevent so many animals from ending up in shelters.
Yes. We need to educate pet owners.
OK a freaky Panda bear is not fun to look at or receive as a gift. Scary! Congrats to the author:) How sad to hear 4 million a day. I knew it was high but I didn't realize how high. Very, very sad especially when one knows many animals are sweet and deserve a home
I'm looking forward to a scary evening with this book. All the bears are now banned from my house.
Love that quote – so true. And the Little White Rabbit anthology has such a wonderful cover.
I loved the animated gif!
I have a shelter dog. He is the greatest and I am sad when I realize that for a big dog (60 pounds) he is 15 years old and is really slowing down. But he is a good boy.
They should be with us forever, shouldn't they?
Love that animal program! It gives me the warm fuzzies. 🙂 Congrats to JH. That book does look creepy!
I wouldn't leave that bear in charge of the house.
Thanks for featuring me on your wonderful blog. I'm happy to be here. 🙂
Great to have you here. Loved your AtoZ Theme, so it's my pleasure to feature your book, which I'm sure I'll enjoy too!
I really appreciate the support. Means a lot to us "new" authors.
That book sounds awesome.
Great thing to do for the animals indeed
What a great animal program. And love the quote!
Yvonne
Nice to meet JH! Thanks, Lee, for the intro. Love Earhart's quote; I find myself there often. 🙂
I think you and I are in a large club. 🙂
I've only heard about the Pilots N Paws programs a few months ago…isn't it wonderful? We have a small, local airport in my town that they sometimes fly into. So awesome.
Katie @TheCyborgMom
That's great. Maybe the news is getting out.
I'm so glad there are places like Pilots N Paws to help out. Congrats to JH!
I am, too, Cherie. I hope other things like this will pop up.
We just got a new rat, Wilbur, as a pet. He was my son's lab rat in psychology, and he could either have euthanized him or brought him home. He chose to bring him home. He's a good rat. I actually like him.
I normally like teddy bears, but not that one! Best of luck to JH!
Rats are darned smart. I'm not a huge fan, but I've seen some pet rats that behave better than the family dog.
We donate to local shelters and always go there when we're ready to adopt. The book sounds really scary. Congrats to J.H.
I like to donate to shelters, too. That seems to be a direct kind of help for the animals who are left there.
Pilots and Paws is awesome. Good for them.
JH's book sounds good. I can read horror stories no problem. Just can't watch them.
I know. Those scary movies ruin a good night's sleep.
Huzzah to Pilots and Paws. It's wonderful what they do to save animal lives.
Congrats to JH for her release. That blurb sounds chilling. Now I'll be giving the stuffed animals I see a double take lol!
Isn't that the truth? I'm considering banning Teddy Bears all together.
Well now, that IS a spooky trailer! I know of several dogs that have been transported to their forever homes all the way from the Virgin Islands to Boston and other places on the East Coast. It's a wonderful thing.
Any time I see an animal get a good home, I'm happy.
It always makes me so sad how many innocent animals are euthanized. Pilots N Paws sounds like a amazing group.
Congrats to J.H.! That trailer was awesome! 😀
The trailer gave me the chills.
Pilots N Paws sounds awesome! It's great that they help so many animals.
Congrats to J.H.!
It's a great idea.
4 million a day! Oh wow, that breaks my heart. I wish people would be more responsible with the pets they have and adopt pets. Our stray kitty has been a wonderful addition to our family. Thanks for mentioned the giveaway!
Great giveaway, TBM. Thanks for including me.
Pilots N Paws sounds wonderful.
Congrats to J.H.
I'm making it a charity I'll support.
Pilots N Paws sounds like an awesome charity. I'll have to consider donating. And congrats to J.H. Her book sounds scary–something boys especially will like.
I'm looking forward to a scary read!
I am a real softie when it comes to animals, Also congrats to JH I'm sure book will be a success.
Yvonne.
Me, too!
Congratulations to JH! Also featuring her today at the A to Z Blog.
That's a shame so many animals are put down.
I know. At least someone's doing something about a few.
