I took the weekend off. Well, kind of. My kids wanted to take me out to brunch for Mother’s Day. I said, “No. Come here. I like my cooking better than the X or Y or even Z restaurant.” So, of course, I got my wish.
They came.
I cooked.
We ate.
We talked.
We remembered all those other Mother’s Days when Grandma Willie or Grandma Mimi were with us. We promised to have a big family reunion like the ones we used to have at Russian River. And then…the dishes.
I’d forgotten the aftermath. Fortunately, my husband’s a trooper, and we shouldered through the Happy Mother’s Day clean-up. Of course, I totally forgot I was an author launching a book this week, and when I pulled up my blog to “check” what I’d prepared for Monday…NOTHING!
What?

This was me a long time ago. No. That’s a lie.
Being a mom takes priority. Being an author is a very close second. So here’s my blog for the week. Buy my book. I don’t care which one, just pick a book. BUT the newest one is dazzling. Well, almost dazzling. It’s fun, and I enjoyed writing it. Sometimes.

Quote of the Week: “I’ve a grand memory for forgetting.” Robert Louis Stevenson
I know you’ve shut down comments on your latest post but I just wanted to pass on condolences. So sorry to hear this news.
Thank you, Nick. Life deals each of us some severe whacks up the side of the head. I remember that you’ve had your share and appreciate your message.
Saw your post of 21st – thoughts are with you.
Thank you, Mike. This has been on huge rollercoaster ride, and I hate those things. Thank you for reaching out.
This ranks right up there as one of my favorite blog posts of all time. I feel compelled to buy your book. Any of them. Or all of them.
Congrats on the book release. Sounds like you had good mother’s day (outside of clean up.)
Your books cut right to the chase C. Lee packed with the same sharp wit and magic, so heres an idea. I need folks to contribute to my charity and so I’ve bought your book! You’re my No.1
Holy Space Bot! I like the way you think. Charity and to the point.
Glad you had a nice Mother’s Day! Sounds like you got to do what you wanted to do. 🙂
Best of luck with all your release festivities. 🙂
This is the best blog post ever! I laughed out loud 🙂
I need to be more spontaneous!
Being a parent definitely takes priority, for everything, always:) I agree too that home food is better than the restaurant:)
I’ll bet you had a great Mother’s Day celebration, Mark.
Hahaha! I love this blog post! Congrats on your release, Lee, and Happy Belated Mother’s day.
I can only be subtle when I’m not rushed. Otherwise, I tell it like it is. Hi, Loni.
Being with family can be so much fun. I’m looking forward to seeing my kids this summer.
That Stevenson quote sounds like my motto these days.

Tossing It Out
Hope you have a great visit, Arlee!
I loved this post! 😁 Congrats on the release. It looks and sounds wonderful.
I’m thinking I should write more posts a few minutes before they go live. Spontaneous!
Lee, you made me laugh. 🙂
Congrats on wrapping up the trilogy!
Some Very Messy Medieval Magic is all over the place… and buzzing on social media too.
Ha ha–I loved this, Lee: “So here’s my blog–buy my book.” Awesome.
Glad you spent Mother’s Day the way you wanted to, and didn’t have to clean up by yourself. But inquiring minds want to know–what did you make?
Congrats on your big launch!
Ah, great question. Spanikopita, venison steaks, salad and raspberry zabaglione for dessert.
I’m enjoying the launch, but stumbling over things and making silly mistakes. I should never rush. I don’t do it well.
I was sure I had already commented. Yet another failure. Robert Louis S has me nailed this week.
Love your priorities – and your work.
If Robert S were with us today, he’d understand. You made it, so that’s all that counts.
You nailed the priorities. Glad you enjoyed Mother’s Day.
See you, tomorrow.
Hey! You have a new book coming out, my dear. Tell us more.
As to priorities, they are simple, right? Family, health, honesty, follow-through. I know that’s not a parallel list, but it’s how I work.
Sounds like a great mother’s day. Always cleanup to do.
haha if all else fails, just buy buy buy.
If you don’t tell people what you want them to do, they don’t do it. 🙂 That’s how my family works. “Clean that cat box. Now!” Otherwise, guess what? I have to do it.
Whoops. At least you remembered. Eventually.
All things in good time, Liz!
Glad your Mother’s Day was successful and you got a post up too. You are amazing, you know.
🙂 And now I’m the matriarch. Who thought that would ever happen? Like my gram always said, “All things come to he who waits.”
I’m not amazing, I’m old and increasingly cunning. Glad you’ve stuck with me. That has been so helpful.
Ha ha! If you are old, I’m ancient.
Hi Lee – clever quickly formatted post … which brought many reminiscences … so much nicer to be at home – yet the aftermath can be a wee challenge: better to get it done and not shut the door and wait for the morning. Good luck with the book – the title is fun – cheers Hilary
I hate waking up to a kitchen that’s full of dirty dishes. I’d rather put in the time late at night than in the morning.
I like the title, but so darned long! 🙂
So much better getting up to a fresh home … so a comforting cup of coffee or tea can be had on awakening. Long title – pretty succinct I thought … cheers for now … I’m off to give a talk on the Royals … either old or new to be!! Cheers Hilary
Sounds like you had a nice Mother’s Day! Thank you for purchasing my book, Don’t Feed the Elephant! I appreciate it! I hope you and your avid reader enjoy it. I pre-ordered your book. Looking forward to reading it. Best of luck with the release!
It’s next on my TBR list, so I’m looking forward to it. Love the title and the kids are going to as well.
Hi, Cheryl-Lee!
Happy belated Mother’s Day to you, dear friend! Thanks for telling us about your family get together. You remind me of Mrs. Shady, dear friend. She (and I) prefer her cooking to that of any other member of the family, and her dishes are tastier and more artistically presented than those of 99% of the restaurants we have tried. You made a wise decision to stay home and cook even if it meant cleaning up afterward. You would have fared no better had you gone out to dine at the X or Y or Z restaurants because all three of those little known chains require customers to do their own dishes. No wonder they continue to struggle in obscurity. 🙂
I appreciate your refreshingly bold and direct command to “Buy my book.” It reminds me of the Ellen DeGeneres sitcom of the 90s in which Ellen plays the owner of a bookstore called Buy The Book.
You did a great job with your hastily prepared Monday post and I wish you a wonderful week ahead, dear friend Cheryl-Lee!
A great compliment, Shady, to be compared to you Mrs. Shady. Thank you. And, of course, you’re right about the home-cooked meal. So wonderful.
I figured I didn’t have time to nuance my sales pitch, so I got to the point. I wish it would work as well as it did for Ellen.
Here’s to your week being joyful.
Having a home-cooked meal can often be a more meaningful experience than going to a restaurant, and it does save money!
My husband’s the first to point out the savings. We go out when the cupboard’s bare or I’m in over my head with books. I’m thinking next week’s going to be a good time to find another place to eat.
I like a smart woman that makes her point. “Buy my book.”
Sounds like your Mother’s Day was awesome.
T.
Might as well come out with it, right? Thanks for the visit, Teresa.
LOL! How could you forget? And you have a guest post today, too.
I know. I’m back in my seat at the control panel. Enough eating and reminiscing. Back to work!
Ooh, this book looks fun. (Love that title!) Many congrats on your latest release!
And LOL, you’re way better at putting together a last-minute post than I am. I would’ve just let my blog grow dusty. XD
Well, you have drawing talent, so I’m sure you put together something fun with your characters tormenting each other.
Now that made me chuckle! At least you had help with the dishes and you got a post together.
Mother’s Day threw me a curve this year! Glad you got a chuckle.
