This is a new year with all kinds of promise, yet as I enter the second week I’m already amazed at how my calendar is filled with the usual boring stuff. You know this kind of thing:
1. Reorganize recycling bins in garage.
2. Check rain gutter for leaks.
3. Return giant stuffed Panda to Toys(backwardR)Us.
At the bottom of January I do have, “Edit That #!@** manuscript,” but I can’t remember which one I meant at the time.
And here I wanted to start 2012 with balloons and confetti and parades and maybe a touch of glamour. Maybe it’s not too late. What do you think? And what kind of glam thing should I choose? Here’s what I’ve thought might put some zip into that list of mine.
1. Buy a plane ticket to ___________(fill in the blank).
2. Sign up for Zumba.
3. Buy a new Jaguar for a road trip across the U.S.
4. Take that scuba gear and explore the Mariana Trench–not too deep, okay?
5. Go to Hollywood and get a job as a movie extra. Maybe I could meet Andy Garcia. That’s kind of glam.
Does any of that sound like a good idea. I could still squeeze in tidying up the recycling bins and that other stuff. Not sure about editing, however.
What would you do if you were out to add a bit of sparkle to your new year before it became your old one?
Oooo, fun question. I like your adventurous spirit! The new car sounds nice. Wouldn't even have to be a Jag, if you ask me 😉
I guess Zumba has to go up the list of possibilities!
Zumba?!!? Mind you!! My neighbour loves her zumba classes and she seriously looks like Helen Mirren – and about the same age too. Gorgeous and very elegant!! I can only glare with envy!! LOL!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Take care
x
Oh yes! I want to add some sparkle to my new year!! YES! But, the list of boring chores is SO LONG … *sigh*
Have fun, Lee! 🙂
It seems I have a lot of votes for doing everything on my wish list. Sounds doable.
But Empty Nest Insider dowsed me with cold water when she said Andy has a wife. I was so hoping he didn't. Off to pick another hunk to drive off with in my new Jag.
Thanks for all the support in my daydreams!
1. Buy a plane ticket to… Australia
2. Sign up for Zumba. – Um, no thanks
3. Buy a new Jaguar for a road trip across the U.S. Sounds good to me
4. Take that scuba gear and explore the Mariana Trench. If it’s OK with you I will take a snorkel and explore the Great Barrier Reef!
5. Go to Hollywood and get a job as a movie extra. Why settle for a movie extra – I want to be the star!!!!
They all sound like excellent ideas! While you're in Hollywood, you could by a ticket to Hawaii or Bora Bora!
You should pick up Andy Garcia in your shiny new Jaguar, and take off on a road trip. If you choose the convertible, then you don't have to worry about squeezing his wife into the back seat! Julie
Ha! I'll take the Jaguar and road trip, please.
But I can't complain: I'm taking off for a writing conference tomorrow. After I organize the recycling. ; )
I'd love to have the $ to travel. I want to explore Italy and France–I want to spend more time in Paris!
Realistically, I'll be buying a house, so no travel.
Now that's some sparkle!!!!
Ahhh…. Zumba sounds like the only one I can afford??? Though I've been tossing around the idea of a spring break road trip. Just have to find some friend who doesn't mind me crashing at her place (uh, that would be me and four kids?)
I'll keep saving for that camper…
You can do them all, Lee!
I was a TV show extra one summer in Chicago (for Early Edition with Kyle Chandler & Cupid with Jeremy Piven). They were long days, but fun to see how filming worked! So I'd do it a few times for kicks if I were you!
Also, I just got the Zumba game for our Xbox to get into shape. It's fun!
How funny – I'm experiencing this very same thing, and Zumba and the movie extra thing were on my list of possibilities, too! And guitar lessons.
Probably a trip, somewhere warm and tropical where I can read on a beach and sip fruity drinks. That sounds very sparkly to me!
They all sound fun! My husband just finished his first experience as a movie extra and absolutely loved it, so I would recommend that one! The plane ticket is a close second, though.
The Jaguar sounds like fun.
Go with all of them! (Uh oh… I'm an enabler, aren't I?) Have a great week, Lee! 🙂
I love moody Mondays 🙂 I had a case of the Mondays today… Wow I hate that saying!
Your to-do list sounds as glam as mine. I just realized we're heading into good old Tax Season again!
Good ideas!! I think I'd head out on a photographic African safari! 🙂
I LOVE Zumba. Go for it! 🙂
I LOVE Zumba. Go for it! 🙂
A plane ticket is exotic, but so is meeting Andy Garcia.
I have yet to get x-mas crated up. I have clean the pantry on my list, too. Exciting.
I just saw my first Zumba demo. It looks like a blast. I wanna go to Ireland. I live in LA, so if I see Andy, I'll tell him to check out your blog. Happy 2012.
I love this! I have the same boring thins on my list too! I think the plane trip to ______ sounds great. If I could add some type of sparkle to my list it would be to take a trip to somewhere relaxing. Even a short trip would be welcome. I would also like a monthly (or bi-weekly) massage. Ahhh. Now you have gotten me thinking!
Great post!

Oh! Plane ticket for me! I did something more in my price range though: I bought new light switchplates for the house. It doesn't seem huge, but it's made a difference for me.
Just started babysitting grandbaby full time today, so if I can keep up with the blogging and finish the WIPs I'm in the middle of, I'll be happy. A Jaguar sounds nice. I'm not sure what Zumba is. Wow, I'm impressed that you scuba dive! A movie extra? Nah, you definitely deserve a speaking part.
I'd love to go back to karate. That would be at the top of my list. And I always wanted to learn to hula dance. Too bad my body doesn't cooperate like it used to!
Hmmmm, I'd like to take a month (at least) to explore Scotland. I've tried Zumba but it's just a little to hard on my knees. Movie extra sounds fun…
Acquiring the agent of my dreams without having to struggle with queries would be to die for!
I'm a big dork because my honest answer it to write like crazy, which I've been doing. I'm happiest when I'm writing a new manuscript.
But in the sense of actually being fun, I'd add taking a trip to the Caribbean. But there's that pesky task of getting passports that needs to be taken care of first.
Life stuff can be a real drain. Mostly I ignore whatever I can, lol.
My neighbor teaches Zumba and looks AMAZING. I keep thinking I should take her class! 🙂
I always find that trips give me something to look forward to – no matter how big or small or how far away. I always want to go somewhere new. And setting writing goals before the trip starts is a good way to meet deadlines.
Treat yourself to something new and different. Now as to what that is only you can decide!!
I'm doing a new goals blogfest on Jan. 23rd. You should join us and see what we all come up with!!
How about all of the above? You definitely need something fun to put on your calendar. After a while the whole recycling bin thing gets really boring 😀
A trip sounds good.
Or a bunch of massage treatments.
Or a writing retreat.
New Jag sounds good to me!
Buy a plane ticket!!
My calender is just starting to burst and I haven't even added the fun things like book signings to it yet 😀
