This is Day 4 of my Character Reveal series for my next book—title TBA soon. I’ll post a new character and a one-question T/F Quiz each Wednesday until I run out of characters. Those who comment most AND answer the most questions correctly will receive a signed book (bookplate sent separately–50 copies up for grabs) and a chance at 1 of 2 $10.00 Gift Certificates. At the end of each week, I’ll announce the winners. The books and the CG’s will be sent out upon publication. Sorry, but I can only send paper books to U.S. However, I can send eBooks to international followers. If you win a book, you’re entered to win one of the Gift Certificates.
To enter, leave a comment and type the answer to the quiz at the end of your comment (A, B, or C) I’ve left links to the previous post if you’re joining me late, so you can work your way back if you want to see the other posts and comment to win. Here’s last week’s POST.
Last week’s winners are: Sandra Cox and Liz A. Keep visiting to win the GC!
Meet Mrs. Bancroft
Last week, if you stopped in, you met Taylor Bancroft. Today here’s her mom. Mrs. Brancroft is a dedicated parent. She never misses a practice or a meet, and she never fails to encourage her daughter to do her best. In fact, she insists Taylor must always have a “positive attitude.”
That would be a good thing if she didn’t also criticize Taylor’s teammates. She may think others don’t hear her remarks, but they do, and Taylor takes the rap for it.
Mrs. Bancroft isn’t a bad mom. She’s one who wants the very best for her daughter, and that is usually the characteristic of what’s been labeled “helicopter mom.”
Quiz: What generation in the U.S. usually makes up what we call “helicopter moms”?
A. The women who grew up in the late 70s, early 80s called the “latch key” kids.
B. The women who were from single-parent homes.
C. The women who were orphaned early in life.

😣 F… I don’t know that I’ve been putting letters at the end. Sort of been working them in.
🧠🚫 Stupid brain.
Eh well, I’m weeks behind anyhow.
Only one of those sounds like a generation thing. Others are circumstances that have always happened. So A.
I think you get an A for effort regardless of where you put the F…g letter. I like your reasoning as you go through the questions. That makes the effort I put in very worthwhile. Thank you.
Hi Lee – not being American and not having parents from those generations … I fail for an F!! I can understand helicopter children from the description. Mrs B – is pretty selfish … and won’t help her daughter much – causing her a few problems … interesting ideas coming out of this snippet and choices. All the best – Hilary
Hi,
I truly want to say A, B, and C. but since I can only choose one I will say A.
Shalom aleichem,
Pat G @ EverythingMustChange
I’d say A) because of psychology – if you were a latchkey kid you’d swing in the other direction and hover around your kids like a helicopter.
Mrs Bancroft is very ‘holier than thou’ and seems to think that because she is so perfect she can criticise others.
I’d say “A.” That’s my generation. And yes, I know a lot of helicopter moms!
A. The helicopter moms often want to give their children what they didn’t have……. A parent at their meets, practices etc. cheering for them. (As latch key kids , their parents were at work). Unfortunately they go way overboard!
I go with “A”. But she looks like she’s watching a soccer match and not a ski event 🙂
I guess that’s because she is. I couldn’t find a woman watching a ski competition. I guess soccer mom’s are more notorious than the ones on the slopes! 🙂
I’m also going to go with A because my husband is a helicopter and he’ll admit it was because he was a latch key kid and didn’t care for it.
First-hand experience!
Mrs. Bancroft => Born Ms. Craft
helicopter mom => polemic mother
Quiz: I’d say A.
Sorry for being the proverbial day late and a dollar short. Do I get a tardy slip? When I was in high school, I handed in a paper late and wrote on it, “Better late than never.” The teacher wrote back, “Better, never late.”
Y’all have a Happy Independence Day!
Love those teachers, but she must have given you a good mark for the humor!
Ah, yes, the helicopter mom. I do believe these are the people of my generation, option A.
It’s interesting how people in each generation have similiar characteristics, isn’t it?
I’m going with A.
Helicopter parents can make life so hard on kids! The exact opposite of what they’re trying to do. And they don’t take critiques kindly 🙂
Sounds as if you’ve had some personal experience as a teacher.
I feel “B” for some reason. Not sure why…lol
Go with your feeing. I’ll post all of the answers at the end.
A. Though I was an early latch key kid when my mother went back to work. I loved it – it was good for her and good for me too.
Independence at an early age. I was a latch key kid, but I don’t think my kids were ever subjected to my helicoptering.
The ones that I know are A.
Could be all of the above.
Now, Simone, you can’t choose ALL! 🙂
A.
I’d say A.
