Here’s to a great AtoZ!

This year I traveled to Cuba. You know, it’s that little island that’s spitting distance from Florida and should not be visited without special dispensation. I wanted to see it before MacDonald’s arrived. I’m so glad I did. I learned a lot and I met some wonderful people. It seems they like us. Now there’s a change!
I’ll add a short T/F quiz to each post the same as I did last year about Burma, and I’ll post the answers to the questions the following day.
Answers to your T/F Quiz for K:
TRUE 1. The first Cuban Grand Prix was held in 1957, and Juan Fangio won it in his Maserati 300S. It was Bautistia’s hope that this major race would help him turn Havana into Latino Las Vegas. Castro had other ideas.
TRUE 2. Following the successful revolution in 1959, organized motor racing in Cuba ended permanently. The government thought it was too bourgeois for a socialist state.
L is for La Floridita:
The La Floridita is known as the home of the Daiquiri. And it was “home” to Hemingway for many days and nights. The folklore has it that in one day he consumed 40 Daiquiris. It was an easy walk from my hotel in Ciuidad Vieja and I had to see the famed bar and restaurant I’d read about for years. So I bellied up to the bar, ordered a Daiquiri (something I never drink) and toasted Hemingway who sat at the end looking out over the crowded room. He never moved, so I thought he may have already downed a few of those horrid, sweet beverages.
Your T/F Quiz for L:
1. This famous nightspot was once called “La Piña de Plata” (The Silver Pineapple).
2. The Daiquiri is made from vodka and pineapple juice.
Answers tomorrow.
@@ I think I'm seeing double… J/K lol. Nice history lesson about Cuba and Hemmingway.
Happy A to Z

Hi Lee – fascinating snippets of history here … and how terrible one man could hold a country back. The sculpture of Ernest is wonderful … and I've no idea re the questions – I'll see later on! Cheers Hilary
Knowing how much he drank..I can see that but they are sweet and tart. I will se true to the first question but false to the second.
Your trip looks like it was super cultural and fun. Love me some Hemingway too.

Fun! I love a good daiquiri.

Interesting! Hubs and I also hope to visit Cuba before it loses too much of its character. Happy travels.

Oh yum! Daiquiris!
I bet you heard great, lively music in Cuba too.
I'm guessing: True, False.
I believe daiquiris have rum and can be many different flavors. I like them, but one is plenty. Otherwise, you get an acid stomach!
So cool that you can travel to all these awesome place….just like Hemingway;)
very interesting. I like daiquiris, but not with pineapple. I bet they have darn good rum. It would be fun to visit Hemingway's haunts.
That is a beautiful statue of Hemingway. I quit drinking daiquiris because they are much too sweet for my taste. I'd worry more about the sugar than the alcohol.

Anything to do with Ernest Hemingway fascinates me. What a great opportunity you had to soak up his essence. Love the statue! Sweet drinks can make you sick and lead to killer hangovers. Not on my list of favourite cocktails, but cheers to Hemingway and you!
I never drink: I get into enough trouble sober! 🙂 I do envy you your Cuban adventures.
I like the Hemingway statue. I don't know the answer for the first, but the second question is a "No." Daiquiris are made from rum and traditionally with lime juice although other fruits have been used, too.
Never tried a daiquiri. I'm gonna look it up! Have a lovely day.
That's a lot of daiquiris. I like sweet girly drinks, but I can only drink so many before the sugar (and alcohol) gets to me.
A day is 24 hours, it could be done. LOL
Isn't rum in a daiquiri? What do I know, apparently very little. 🙂
40 daiquiris in one day?? I'd probably lose my ability to order them after five. I've only had strawberry ones–very tasty!
40! No wonder he's leaning on the bar. I'm saying true for #1… as for the daiquiris, perhaps those in Cuba are made with pineapple juice because of the former name of the bar. BUT, I also know daiquiris can be made with a variety of things. On St. Thomas, Mountain Top is famous for its banana daiquiris… (I've never had one)
He sure could suck them back. Not sure what it is made from though.
That is a cool statue. I don't think I'd like Daiquiris either.

My what alot of Daiquris to down in a day,….I stick to water..lol
Most pleasurable to read.
Yvonne.
If Hemingway consumed 40 Daiquiris in one day, hopefully the bartender left the alcohol out of at least half of them.
I first heard of a Daiquiri when I was in Florida at the age of 19 – I had no idea what it was. In the years since I have had several – I prefer them frozen. That is a lot of Daiquiris to drink in one day!

That's a lot of daiquiris.
And I think it's made from rum.
