This week’s SMALL THING turned out to be rather BIG and in our backyard. Can you see the pussy cat in the tree? She’s about 150 pounds, and we later learned she has a guy with her, but when I took her picture he was in another tree. The lesson here is mountain lions can climb very high, so figure out another escape route.

Mountain lions are gorgeous animals, yet as much as I think I'd love to see one in "real life," I'd probably prefer this at a safe distance. : )
Julie Flanders says
I'm just catching up on Friday's hop and just love this photo. While I wouldn't want to come face to face with a mountain lion, they are so beautiful to look at. Your backyard must be quite something!
Empty Nest Insider says
What a great photo! Your next book should be entitled, "Mountain Lions Overhead!"

Yikes! That's pretty scary for the guy.

We had a bobcat run across our fence! Good thing our giant pansy-assed sled dog wasn't out there. Big cats are cool, but very scary!
Theresa Milstein says
Wow, I didn't see that cat until you pointed it out!

I was golfing early one morning and a mountain lion came charging down the fairway. Suddenly the golf cart seemed incredibly insubstantial. Thank goodness I didn't look tasty.
Bish Denham says
That is so far out. And scary cool. And terrifyingly neat.
Samantha May says
Well that's a little terrifying.
I'm a cat lover though. I'd probably want to pet it if there was zero chance that it could kill me in .032 seconds 🙂

Aaagghh!!
I remember hiking in Montana, being more scared of mountain lions than grizzlies. "Grizzlies won't stalk you … mountain lions will," people said. OH YAY.
Lexa Cain says
YOU TOOK THE PICTURE??!! I'm shocked you lived somewhere that you can see mountain lions outside of a zoo. Yikes! Better carry lots of pepper spray – or better yet, a shotgun, when you go on walks now.
Al Diaz says
That's an incredible picture! I would be both thrilled and scared to go out hahaha. Probably send a dwarf scout to check first.

Wow, what an awesome sight. We had a cougar up at the observatory. But a hunter shot him/her this fall, so he's gone. Since @200 lbs, I'll assume a he. What a bummer. I never saw him, but always hoped to. I'd tease Gary that it was in the bushes spying on us. Maybe. lol I would've freaked if it were true.

A good warning to keep in mind. Thanks! Wonderful picture, but keep safe. 🙂

OMGosh! We camped in a the mountains of Montana once. The all night howling of coyotes or wolves was a stark reminder that nature can and will eat me if given a chance. Made a dirty hotel look good!

Great picture, though!
