The brainchild of Arlee Bird, at Tossing it Out
|
We’re coming into the home stretch on the A-Z Blogging Challenge. U is the 21st letter in our alphabet, so we only 5 more posts before we can fall across the finish line and pat ourselves on the back.
I had a hard time picking a word for today, but I finally decided on one that I’d never heard before. And here I pride myself on knowing a lot of words.
*Take Smug Expression from Linguistic Face.*

Have you ever heard of uranoscopy? Maybe some astronomers or star gazers have this in their vocabulary, but not me. However, if you’ve ever done any star-watching, you’ve participated in uranoscopy.
I’ve got to see what others of you have posted on your U Word Day. Anyone use uranoscopy?

I have never heard this one before! It sounds like a silly word- but I like its meaning. 🙂

Hi Lee .. I saw Mary Pax had turned up .. she knows what uranoscopy is .. as she does it all the time – but didn't know the word.
These scientists .. really! Cheers to you both .. Hilary
Great word, especially when I thought it would be universe! I'm adding uranoscopy to my list of new words because, well, because it's a new word to me:)
Yikes! It's just star gazing? uranoscopy sounds painful…
Pretty graphics. I enjoy stargazing.
LOL, I'm familiar with the last 2 syllables of that word, otherwise brand new to me too.
Check out this word: ululation
Not sure if you know it?

I've done a lot of that without knowing there was another word for it. Will be starting up another season of it here in a few weeks. According to my crit partners, I love the word undulations a lot. It is a great word. Isn't it?
LOL! I think I'll leave that word alone. It sounds like it'd be in the same vicinity as a colonoscopy.
New word for me, too! If you hadn't provided the definition, I would have thought it was some sort of medical procedure – LOL.
Interesting word. Sounds like examining Uranus… *groan* 🙂
Kind of sounds like a medical procedure to me… 🙂
New word for me as well, but with those pictures, it gives me the idea of something very quiet and calm, =)
This is a new word to me. Love those pics!
Can't say I have heard of or used that word, though apparently I do it! Crazy – it does sound like a medical exam!! 🙂
No, and can't say I've ever heard the word before.
hee hee it sounds like a painful medical exam. Never heard of it til today. Thx Lee!
I'm looking forward to going back to my two a week blog post schedule. Been a long month.

Same here, Mark. Great, heh?
I've never heard of that word, but I'm learning all sorts of cool things this month 🙂
Never heard of uranoscopy. It's a funny word, but it sounds like such fun, too!

One thing about the AtoZ it stretches your knowledge base. You have to go out and find words or facts you'd never thought existed.
That's the sort of word I would have adopted in junior high and giggled every time I used it. I had a (misguided)love for words from a young age…
It has that connection, doesn't it?
Not seen anyone else use it. And I'm sure you're glad there's only 5 more days left.
Absolutely. I'm doing a countdown.
Never heard of it! I have to admit I had the same thought as Dezmond when I first read the word LOL.
I'm with you on the LOL!
This is a new word for me – in spite of my interest in the stars!
I'm waiting for the astronomers among us to weigh in. I'm sure they know it.
well as long as uranoscopy isn't done on my body LOL :ppp
I know. There are so many "scopy" procedures these days that when I stumbled on this one I held my breath before reading the definition!
That's a new word to me!
Uranus has been a popular choice today. Yes, the word makes me chuckle!
I figured some AtoZers would go for Uranus and maybe a bit of ribald humor.
