My theme this year is Burma AKA Myanmar. I used to live in Laos, so I looked forward to returning to Southeast Asia. I spent a little over three weeks exploring this country, learning a bit about its culture: its history, religion, and language. I thought others might enjoy some of what I learned and see some of what I saw.

Taxi Along the Irrawaddy River |
Somehow I missed getting the side of the wagon that had the sign painted on it. The driver had a very large dark one that said TAXI. I could see it as the boat pulled up to the shore. Photographer fail!
It was a bumpy ride, but we got to where we wanted to go and back to the boat safely. The driver told jokes, but I didn’t get them. I’m not good in Burmese.
I love my tea in liquid form.
Tea salad? I'm not sure about this…
Some really quaint transportation…
I can't get over that taxi! Love it. Had to pin.
Great post.
Tea salad? I'm not a fan of the taste of tea, so I probably wouldn't like it.
with your colourful description and Yummy Tea Salads you have painted a beautiful picture of Burma

Saved by a friend – the taxi on the side makes the whole cart! I LOVE tea, so that would be a bit of paradise for me.

Thanks for the tea salad recipe! What an adventurous taxi ride!

That taxi is awesome, with or without the taxi sign. Tea salad is new to me–thanks for giving us the recipe in the comments. I've added it to my "to try" list, the one that's not seeing any action until the end of April.:
I love tea — I would like to try tea salad!
Yvonne
This sounds like an awesome place. Thanks so much for sharing all of this.
Those photos look great, and interesting read!
Tea, yummy. I drink a lot. The salad looks delicious. The taxi looks like a bumpy way to travel. Better than walking though. Great pictures.
I enjoyed this so much I read it twice through. Made excellent reading.
Yvonne.
Cool and informative post. To think, I've lived this long without tea salad. Ugh.
That tea salad sure looks interesting!
Tea salad sounds fascinating! I think I'm going to try to make it! Had a cookbook w/ recipes for using green tea, because some people find it easier to take in with food rather than drinking it for the medicinal benefits. Food = medicine. I had the chance to listen to a tea talk by Kahu Lyons Naone, a Hawaiian cultural practitioner. The Hawaiian approach to tea and medicine was kind of mind blowing. He stressed the importance of protocols when picking medicine for tea, and not carelessly mixing teas for flavor without considering the effects of intermixing on the body. I'm going to include the direct link for this. http://www.mauijungalow.com/2015/02/hawaiian-healing-and-tea-with-kahu.html I know it's not part of the A to Z Challenge, but you might find it interesting. Your posts have been fascinating!
I loved reading what he had to say about healing and balance. This is wonderful. Thank you so much for posting the link here. I'm going to share it with others and maybe some of the people here will find it interesting, too.
I have never seen so much tea in one place in my life! How cool! Never heard of a tea salad but since you had so many of them, I'm assuming they are better than good! Lisa, co-host AtoZ 2015, @ http://www.lisabuiecollard.com
That's a lot of tea. That taxi looks like a rough ride and not very fast. I'm going to say true for both.
I would love to go for a taxi ride in that:) The teas would be so good there and would try the tea salad. Hmmm so far 50% but I will say true to both of these questions:)
Mmm tea. Better than coffee. But I'll take either, I'm easy.
Love that taxi. What an experience going abroad must be.
Tea salad? That sounds interesting! What's in it?
Cute taxis. 😉
This is the recipe I got from a local Burmese restaurant.
½ cup loose green tea leaves
2 lemons
6-8 cloves garlic, divided
1 jalapeno
1T fresh ginger
3 green onions
1 tsp galangal
1T sesame oil
3T peanut oil,divided
Pea shoots
6 cups chopped romaine lettuce or cabbage
Grape tomatoes
Moong dal
Roasted peanuts
Sesame seeds
Vegan fish sauce, optional (3T vegetarian oyster sauce+ 2T pineapple juice)
Salt
YAY! I was going to ask this!! I HAD to know what would be in tea salad. Totally my kind of thing 🙂
Wait. Followup question. How does this all come together? I assume the tea leaves aren't crunchy? Do you soak them in the lemon juice and oil? It looks like everything up to the sesame oil would be for dressing, yeah?
Tea Salad, that goes on my to try list. Nice pictures.
Okay, now I'm hungry! The stupa looks delicious too.

anks for stopping by the Untethered Realms blog today.
My "Th" decided to meld with my name. That should be thanks. 😉
I love tea and I love salad, but I've never heard of tea salad. It looks delicious.
We recently hosted Japanese exchange students and they prepared quite a bit of food for us. Amazing how much green tea goes into every meal.
And why not tea salad? It is, after all, a green leaf when freshly picked. Don't know if you have to know what kind of tea you want when you order, but I bet it comes in both cups and bowls.
I bet all that tea smells delicious. I love tea.
Not much of a tea drinker (hot tea) but the salad looks delish! Love the fact that TAXI is in English. Get those tourists!!
Tea salad? It sounds strange and strangely delicious!

Hi Lee – would love a ride in one of those ox wagons, while the tea leaf salad looks delicious … while cups of tea when we feel like – always a good thing .. cheers Hilary
Love that funky taxi. And I love tea. I will never forget the tea market in India.
Tea and Tea salad? Sounds like Heaven.
Now that Taxi is what I call rustic 🙂 Much more environmentally friendly than your average cab in London 😉

Tea salad! I am not an adventurous eater at all, but I would try that! How cool!

I love tea of all kinds, but I've not heard of tea salad! Nor experienced such a taxi – it might be bumpy, but I bet it was interesting.

Tea in my food. Not sure about that.
I bet those are some bumpy taxi rides.
