Yvonne Ventresca, The Art of Remaining Bitter
“All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. . . .You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”—Ira Glass

Renee Cheung, Memoirs of a Forgotten Knight
“This is The Great Work, and all you have to do is choose it, not look back and never fucking stop until you’re in your box, under the dirt and flowers are growing between your teeth.”—Warren Ellis

Love your new cover!! And loved all the quotes but I had to chuckle at Sarah's as the first line is how I feel about my writing 24/7. Ugh!!
Hope you are doing well, Lee!

I like Sarah's quote, too. Although, for me it's more like a painter. I can see the images but struggle to turn them into words.

    Hey Lee!

I cannot choose between the quotes. All are thoughtful in their own way.

Well done on your new cover, Lee and I'm not just horsing around when I state that. I have a new cover. Goes real well with my pillow cases.

Yep, as paw usual, um, as per usual, I is like your starstruckest fan.

    The new cover is great!

As for the quotes, I can't even choose a a favorite this time, but can completely relate to what we do never feeling good enough. My hubby and all my kids are musicians, and I'm forever hearing, "Well, it's not what I was aiming for," or "That's not how I heard it in my head," when someone gives them a compliment. It's a great thing to keep us motivated to do better as long as we don't allow it to cripple us.

The violin quote caught my eye. I know exactly what it's like to have your fingers not cooperate with your mind and ear! 😉

    Hi, Cheryl!

I love these inspirational quotes. How true it is that being able to recognize great writing is one thing; being able to pry it out of your mind, heart and soul and get it committed to the printed page is another. A common theme that runs through these quotes is that you need to keep going, keep producing, keep honing your craft, because it is the only way to develop into a great writer. Quitting certainly won't get you there.

Have a wonderful week, dear friend Cheryl!
